This class is the gateway to all United Flamenco programs and serves as an essential entry point. Every new participant must complete one cycle of this course, either before or alongside other class offerings.

If you have taken Comprehensive Flamenco Studies (CFS) as part of flamencoMAPS programming, this class requirement is considered fulfilled.

The Palos Guide (16 Sessions)

If you’ve completed the Flamenco Guide or Comprehensive Flamenco Studies with FlamencoMAPS and are eager to apply your knowledge by focusing in on flamenco’s core palos, then this is the course for you!

Key Features:

• Cumulative Learning: Build on the concepts established in the Flamenco Guide, applying global principles to specific palos and contexts for a deeper understanding.
• Prioritized Focus: Master the essential palos’ specificities and rules without feeling overwhelmed by the vast flamenco repertoire.
• Introduction to Cante for Non-Singers: Take the crucial step into flamenco cante, unlocking the key to true interaction and communication within the art form. You won’t become a singer, but you’ll gain invaluable insight into the essence of cante!
• Compás Exploration: Each session includes focused time to better understand, practice, and feel the compás of the palo we’re studying.

The Palos Guide Lab (16 Sessions)

Participants must complete The Flamenco Guide and The Palos Guide to access The Palos Guide+.

You’ve completed the Palos Guide. Now it’s time to go deeper on your own terms.
The Palos Guide Lab is a weekly student-driven session where you set the agenda. Bring your questions, your doubts, the moments that didn’t click, and we explore them together. Every session is a conversation, always grounded in examples, documents, and whatever it takes to get to the bottom of things.
New palos territory, nuanced compás, cante interactions… nothing is off the table.

Artist Nuts & Bolts (5 Sessions)

What does it actually mean to have a professional artistic practice, and how do you build one?

Professional practice lives at the intersection of creative vision and practical responsibility, yet most artists are expected to navigate without formal training or support. We produce projects, make logistical decisions, communicate with presenters and students, manage timelines, promote our work, and navigate systems rarely taught alongside artistic training.

Artist Nuts & Bolts is a practical, artist-centered workshop series that demystifies professional practice and equips artists with tools and skills needed to move work from the studio into the professional world with intention and sustainability.

Rather than separating the artistic from the administrative, the series treats both as essential parts of the same framework. Participants learn how to move from an idea, whether a project, a class, or a new initiative, into action through clear steps, real-world frameworks, and shared problem-solving.
