Residency Intensive

Círculo Immersion

Flamenco comes alive in conversation. The Círculo Immersion invites you to enter into that conversation and experience what happens when the music, dance, and cante meet in real time.

This residency is designed for learners who are ready to explore how flamenco elements connect beyond the classroom. Together we practice listening, responding, and interacting as part of a living language – building the foundation for improvisation, rhythm, and structure. This residency approaches creativity and interactivity not as an advanced stage in the learning process, but as the natural starting point.

You will experience the energy of working with live music, discover how compás supports everything you do, and learn to improvise within clear, guided structures. Through daily group sessions, collaborative exercises, and creative exploration, you will begin to feel at home inside the flamenco circle, where every role matters, and learning happens through participation and exchange.

The full Círculo Immersion cycle, taking place from March to August 2026, includes three phases (see Trajectory and Timeline section below) designed to offer a rich, transformative experience within a set timeframe.

  • Step into conversation through singer–dancer–guitarist interaction from the very beginning.
  • Listen, respond, and take initiative, learning how to support and interact within the circle.
  • Apply and practice compás in a group setting, discovering how rhythm shapes every role.
  • Cultivate ease and confidence in improvisation, integrating spontaneity naturally into practice.
  • Understand the balance between support and protagonism, finding your role within the collaborative culture.
  • Join a supportive artistic community, where every participant contributes to the live exchange of flamenco.
  • Are familiar with basic compás patterns and can recognize the rhythmic character of a few main palos such as tangos, bulerías, soleá, or alegrías.
  • Have some material and foundational skills to bring into the group:
    • For dancers, this includes simple marcajes, llamadas, and rhythmic footwork phrases.
    • For guitarists, this includes basic compás patterns, chord changes, and short falsetas.
    • For singers, this includes letras, coletillas and estribillos you have begun to explore.
  • Are curious about how flamenco artists interact in real time and want to experience this communication directly, rather than through choreography or pre-arranged material.
  • Wish to build confidence in improvisation and discover how compás can guide and support every artistic role.
  • Are open to exploring your role within a group, learning how to listen, respond, and take initiative while supporting others.
  • Are comfortable learning in a shared, collaborative environment where guidance and experimentation go hand in hand.
  • Are ready to approach the residency as a collective space for discovery and conversation between artists.
  • Will complete the Flamenco Guide or CFS online as well as participate in group/individual guidance sessions as mandatory preparation before attending the in-person residency.
